Volunteers, Student Interns, Wwoof, Help Exchange

Bayplay have positions available for Travellers and Students to work for experience or a cultural exchange with us during most times of year.  The busier months are from September to May.  In the quieter months - we focus on maintenance, so there are still options for you to help us out.

About us:
Bayplay provides marine based adventure activities, which can be used as a vehicle to teach people about the environment. Our clients are tourists on weekends and educational groups mid week.  We also have 4 accommodation properties to manage.

As owners, we have full-time jobs and plenty of family commitments that keep us busy, and unfortunately unable to act as tour guides ourselves. We have been hosts for helpers/WWOOFers for over 10 years now, and have found that helpers who organise their own fun - get the most out of their stay.

Whilst at Bayplay, there is plenty to do - so we are happy to offer advice and information.

Where we are:
Our office is based in Portsea and helpers live in the town of Blairgowrie in a share house with other staff and helpers.

How to get here:
Public transportation from Melbourne.
Catch a train to Frankston, and then catch the 788 bus to Portsea.  Please confirm your time of arrival with us so we can organise for someone to meet you.  For more information on public transportation to us and timetables please visit www.metlinkmelbourne.com.au

From the airport
Catch the airport bus to the town of Dromana or Rosebud on the Mornington Peninsula. Some routes only go as far as Mornington or Frankston, so in this case it is better to get public transport to us as the drop off points are not at the local transport bus routes. Details are on the website www.fapas.com.au

Work includes:
Housekeeping, Cleaning Equipment, Helping with Catering, Assisting in the gardens (weeding, watering). General Maintenance: Do you have a skill?  Assisting with activities? Kayaking and snorkelling ( for those with skills in this area) or just tagging along and helping as needed.

Helper Agreement: 6 hours a day or approx 30hrs a week.  Some days are full days and others are shorter days.  Helpers are rostered onto set tasks each week. Going on an actual activity is not part of the helper hours, just a bonus.
Helpers are provided with accommodation in a staff share house plus food for meals. Helpers can join onto activity tours when space permits.

(cash payment for work is not an option, please do not ask)

Accommodation:
Fully Self contained house in Blairgowrie - shared with other staff and helpers.   Facilities include kitchen, lounge, 3 bedrooms. 300m from the Mornington Peninsula National Park and back beaches.  Blairgowrie is 10km from Portsea.

Length of Stay:
Two weeks minimum and longer depending on work available, and what our schedule is like.

What to do in your free time:
We don't want you to be bored when you are not working!! .....
The Mornington Peninsula has been a favorite holiday spot for visitors for years! Crystal clear waters, national parks, historical visits, attractions, activities... Bushwalking at Point Nepean or the Mornington Peninsula National Park? Enjoy the pristine beaches.  Visit the local towns and shopping centres. There is plenty to do!  Also, you are welcome to participate in any of the activities Bayplay runs on your free time! Come for a kayak, a snorkel, or even a dive!
(above activities are done on your own time and at your own risk, non-work time is not covered by WWOOF insurance.)

Wwoof info:
Please do not arrive without your WWOOF membership number and photo ID; we cannot accept you without both, as neither you nor us would be covered by the WWOOF Insurance. NO EXCEPTIONS.

What is wwoofing? Willing Workers On Organic Farms (WWOOF) is a form of cultural exchange in which WWOOFers live and work with their hosts, and learn about the area they are visiting.  WWOOF Australia and their hosts make travelling in Australia easy, safe and more fun for both Australian and Overseas Visitors. Fore more information, or to join WWOOF, please visit the WWOOF website at www.wwoof.com.au

We are very busy in the Summer - so we may not get back to you for a few days, or we may be assessing when our current WWOOFers are staying till, so give us a few days to get back to you. No children. No Smoking in buildings.  All volunteers are bound by the same conditions of staff in terms of security and privacy.
